In April 2018, as the discussion around the state of London’s nightlife became more heated, a new 400-capacity club opened in Tottenham hoping to fill the gap in London’s nightlife and promote community and mental-health charities.  The Cause opened in a former car-mechanics depot with the aim not only to create a new multi-purpose venue, but to raise thousands of pounds for its charity partners, which include Mind In Haringey, C.A.L.M. and Help Musicians UK. As co-founder Stuart Glen put it, “The Cause is designed from the ground up to give back to people around us.”

A year on, The Cause has not only established itself as a premier nightspot, but also as a hub for the underground music community, hosting regular DJing workshops, championing local promoters as well as housing businesses such as Kristina Records. However, most impressive of all, is the £20,000 already raised for its various partner charities.

On Sunday they will be celebrating their 1 year anniversary with a mammoth party named ‘XXX’. It will take place across The Cause’s five areas, hosting an enviable line-up of DJs who have all been a part of the venue’s journey over the past twelve months. Whilst the Cause is due to close its doors in January, in a recent interview, Eugene Wild, another of the club’s co-founders, added that with this party “we hope this show will lay the foundations for the end of our first chapter”.

Dutch duo Spokenn, or Ferro & Reiss (who run Amsterdam’s notable VBX parties), are the only headliners who have been announced, though residents of the club’s main parties – Adonis, Tribes, Syzygy and The Model – will return. The remainder of the line-up will remain unannounced, but their roll of honour has enough names to get the imagination going and whet the appetite for what will certainly be a huge birthday celebration.
