More often than not, there’s an inherent sadness weaved into the stylistics of lofi house. From DJ Seinfeld to Fatima Yamaha, lofi producers seem to have an unyielding tendency to draw for nostalgia and raw emotion in their choice of sample and melody.

That’s true here too with this sombre, driving number from Japanese producer Shampoo with ‘Throwing Everything Away’, the A-side from his forthcoming Katarsis EP on Finnish label Mood of the Era. The characteristically DIY sound rings true, from a producer who describes his productions as “just noise that I make in my bedroom”.

The vocals lament of loss and tragedy, as the muffled words drift in and out through teary eyed exchanges: “No matter what you say or what you do, it’s just changed…forever”.
