Premiere: Hi & Saberhägen - Low Obi Strip

Premiere: Hi & Saberhägen – Low Obi Strip
Adam Tiran

In the digital realm, as you can see from their latest press shots, Edinburgh duo Hi & Saberhägen don’t seem to take themselves too seriously. Their output, on the other hand, is anything but insincere, as recent EPs on Yumé Records and Belters have displayed through an intimate connection with introspection and warmth, like on the incredible slow burning blues of ‘WC122’.

Here, they return to East London’s Lo Recordings with a luscious slice of downtempo on the label’s New Shoots compilation that showcases tracks from some of their latest recruits, from K15 to SMBD.

The lush arpeggiated melody which forms the backbone of ‘Low Obi Strip’ is symptomatic of the duo’s penchant for sublime strains of harmony. A melancholic, almost Detroit-esque synth line appears half way through, complimenting distorted tape pads and crisp percussion which tentatively gets itself into a groove.

Lo Recordings’ VA New Shoots compilation is out this Friday Feb 9th via Boomkat.
