Repress Roundup #3

Repress Roundup #3
Jack Smith

For Disco Only – Six

Quirky, wavey, all those lovely adjectives to describe this beast of a record from Mehmet Aslan that first saw the light of day early last year. The A side is a shuffling edit of this Yello tune from 1987, the B side Seth Troxler played at Fabric at the tail end of last year. I had a little moment all to myself for that one… This is how every ‘nu-disco’ record should be.

In stock at Phonica, Juno, Redeye, Piccadilly.

Various – Moods & Grooves

True quality deep house reads like a who’s who of Detroit heavyweights and affiliated badmen: Kenny Dixon Jr., Theo Parrish, Andres, Mr GMoods & Grooves are about to unleash a whole hamper full of rare grooves. If you like me can only afford to pick up one of these represses make it MG-049 for its pure class across all four tracks. For the more indulgent, perhaps 048 simply for the classic Andres riddim ‘Just A Player’ that featured in Motor City Drum Ensemble’s rather delectable Dekmantel ’14 set or 050 for a generous helping of formative-years Theo Parrish.

MG-049 also available at Phonica.

Pender Street Steppers – Bubble World [MH004]

Pender Street Steppers and Mood Hut are shit hot right now. Unfortunately, so are their records, with Jack J‘s anthem ‘Looking Forward To You’ keeping everyone on their toes even after a second repress. You’re unlikely to see any Mood Hut represses without the dreaded ‘One Per Customer’ tag nowadays so better move quick for this signature floaty three-piece.

In stock at Redeye, Piccadilly, Juno.

Bileo – You Can Win [ATH06]

Certainly the most high profile Athens of the North out there at the moment is this tasty little number being rinsed by Floating Points, MCDE et al. I’ve a feeling this one will continue to get the repress treatment with it being in such high demand but hey ho. Feel-good bliss.

In stock at Redeye, Sounds of the Universe, Piccadilly.

Candido – Jingo / Thousand Finger Man [SG219]

Enforcing hip movement in every dance since 1979 is this Salsoul classic from bongo superstar Candido. ‘Jingo’ – the tune that keeps on giving. Time to upgrade that crusty copy for the collection methinks…

In stock at Redeye, Piccadilly.
