Five Essentials: Gremlinz & Homemade Weapons

Five Essentials: Gremlinz & Homemade Weapons
Jack Smith

A pair of producers whose depth-excess 170 have been causing quite a stir in 2013, Gremlinz and Homemade Weapons are finally set to come to the fore after a string of brooding, razor-sharp cuts as solo artists on Doc Scott‘s newly re-established 31 Records, Horizons Music, Demand and Break-Fast Audio to name a few. Continuing on from the similar theme established by Samurai and Genotype‘s Lessons In Depth back in June, After Dark is unapologetically abyssal. Certainly an enigmatic release on a label that continues to support lesser-known yet equally-talented artists, with a full vinyl package that gives the music the best possible platform it truly deserves. Without further ado, we are delighted to present Five Essentials from both Gremlinz and Homemade Weapons, the five key tracks that have most informed their approach to music and production.

Gremlinz

Digital – Lower Depths

One of Digital’s deeper excursions, such a versatile tune. This one really stood out for me as music that could work in both club environments or as a soundtrack in a film.

Klute – Silent Weapons (Photek Remix)

Photek delivered a cleverly crafted remix… gives me chills every time I hear it…

Goldie – This is A Bad

“This is a Bad” indeed. Metalheadz boss man Goldie definitely brought the goods on this one!

DJ Krust – Burning

Arguably my favorite amen tune of all time. Krust delivers a hypnotic groove with such weight.

DJ Ink – Ice Age

“Ice Age” is perfection in my opinion… vinyl crackles, predator snarls, stabs, dirty low end and a unique b-boy break… couldn’t ask for more…

Homemade Weapons

2 Bad Mice – Bombscare

Absolute classic that introduced me to even greater things. This was also one of my first pieces of vinyl.

T-Power – Mutant Jazz

Everything about this song is timelessly amazing! Its dynamic has inspired my favorite remix “Saga” as well.

Splash – Babylon

Undercover Agent has made a lot of incredible tunes that have had a huge impression on my development. I could list many but this one comes to mind first.

Adam F – Metropolis

Definitely a favorite of all time. It needs no intro.

Photek – The Seven Samurai

His drum programming is ahead of it’s time. The use of atmosphere is delicately premeditated. Just perfect.
